The City of East Grand Rapids and Kent District Library – EGR branch will host a community event to celebrate the 10-year anniversary of the EGR Community Center’s opening.
The public is invited to attend from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 24 for a free open house at the Community Center, 750 Lakeside Drive.
Wege Plaza is the center point for festivities, where city workers and volunteers will serve hot dogs, cake and ice cream to party-goers. Family fun including face painting, balloon animals and a craft table will be on hand. Guests will have the opportunity to win merchandise from the Parks and Recreation Department and Gaslight Village merchants. Fire trucks will be open in front of the Public Safety garage for viewing.
B-Side Growlers, which plays “tradition inspired, toe tappin’ fired, vintage acoustic blues, jazz and country” music will perform on Wege Plaza.
Attendees will have a chance to see behind the scenes of the city’s operations, as offices and the library will be open for tours.
“Since its opening 10 years ago, the Community Center has become the epicenter of East Grand Rapids,” Mayor Amna Seibold said. “It’s a place where friends, families and students can gather to learn, have fun and connect. The building was well planned and continues to be a great benefit to the community."
