A recent study ranked the City of East Grand Rapids as the second best place in Michigan to raise a family.
The study, released by WalletHub, compared 104 cities in the state on family life and fun, education, health and safety, affordability and socioeconomics. East Grand Rapids came in second only to the southeastern Michigan community of Rochester.
“This study is just another affirmation of what we already know – East Grand Rapids is a wonderful place to live,” Mayor Amna Seibold said. “With superb schools, robust parks, a thriving business district and access to beautiful Reeds Lake, many parts come together to make our community an attractive place to raise a family.”
The study also ranked the City high on most families with kids, lowest violent crime rate per capita and lowest divorce rate.
“The success of our community truly comes down to our residents, who are incredibly engaged and dedicated to improving East Grand Rapids,” Seibold said. “We can offer the best amenities in the world, but it’s the people who are the heartbeat.”
In 2016, the City was also ranked as the best suburb in Michigan by Business Insider, the happiest place in Michigan by Zippia and one of the safest cities in Michigan by Credit Donkey. Family Circle also named the City a best town to raise a family in 2015. Business Insider has also cited East Grand Rapids as the most educated town in Michigan.
