Next Election
The next scheduled election will be held Tuesday, November 7, 2023. The last day to register by mail or in person anywhere but the East Grand Rapids City Clerk's office for this election is October 24, 2023. Eligible East Grand Rapids residents with proof of residency can register to vote in person from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday at the Clerk’s Office, 750 Lakeside Drive SE by 8 p.m. election night, November 7, 2023.
Absentee ballots will be mailed out the week of September 25. They can also be obtained in the 45 days prior to the election in person from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday at the Clerk’s Office, 750 Lakeside Drive SE. Voters can complete an Application for Absentee Ballot and fax it to 616.940.4884 or email it to the Clerk’s Office. Absentee ballots are issued at the Community Center only – not at the precinct polling locations.
Following the passage of Proposition 22-2 last November, the City will offer nine days of early voting from 8 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 28 through Sunday, Nov. 5 in room 105 at the Community Center, 750 Lakeside Drive SE except for Wednesday, Nov. 1 – which will be open from 11 a.m.-7 p.m.

Photo Identification
Michigan law requires voters to show a valid photo ID at the polls. If you do not have a photo ID, you can fill out a simple affidavit to this effect and then vote as usual. Acceptable forms of ID are:

City Commission Election
The city holds its elections for the mayor and city commissioners in November of each odd-numbered year. The deadline to file for these offices is in mid April. Interested candidates must be a registered voter of the city in the district they are filing for office, have lived in the city for at least one year, and submit 25 signatures from voters within the area you are running for election in.
